A feline cozyed up to a lady at the animal shelter and refused to leave her side after spending years living on the streets.
Daisy Austin, an adoption coordinator at an animal hospital in West Hollywood, California, found herself unexpectedly adopting a cat named Marmie two years ago during an adoption event at the South LA Animal Shelter. Despite not planning on taking another cat home, Marmie caught Daisy’s eye as she wandered into a restricted area at the shelter.
Marmie, a stray cat found on the streets in poor condition, immediately captured Daisy’s heart. The emaciated feline, weighing only 4.5 pounds, had mats all over her coat and was covered in dirt. “She walked up to me and started rubbing her face all over my fingers, purring the whole time,” Daisy shared with Love Meow.
Daisy Austin was suffering from a bad upper respiratory infection, along with some minor skin wounds near her face. Marmie, a scruffy but lovable cat, longed for affection and attention. When she laid eyes on Daisy, she gazed at her with a look of desperation, seeking pets and scratches. Understanding that the shelter couldn’t provide long-term care for Marmie, Daisy quickly realized she needed to take action to ensure the cat’s well-being.
Daisy Austin faced a difficult decision when she had to take action quickly to save a 16-year-old cat at home. Despite the challenges, Daisy knew she had to give her furry friend, Marmie, a second chance. Marmie showed her gratitude by spending hours cuddling with Daisy on her first day home, purring contentedly. It was as if Marmie knew she had been rescued from a life on the tough streets of Los Angeles. Daisy’s heart was warmed by the connection she felt with her new feline companion.

Marmie, the tenacious cat who seemed years younger than her estimated age, went through a series of baths and grooming sessions to remove all the mats and knots from her fur. Content and cozy, she settled comfortably on Daisy’s lap and purred herself into a sweet slumber.
Despite being diagnosed with FIV, stomatitis, Ehler-Danlos syndrome, and feline airway disease, Marmie remained undeterred. Her beautiful eyes locked with Daisy’s, demanding attention as she purred on, displaying a remarkable resilience.

Marmie underwent a full dental extraction to help with her stomatitis, and the results were truly amazing. Just one day after the procedure, she was chowing down on her food like a pro and showing impressive signs of recovery with increased weight and energy.

Despite dealing with the challenges of EDS and its effects on her skin, Marmie remains a happy and resilient kitty. With the right care and attention, her skin tears are managed effectively and she stays in high spirits all the time.
All Marmie really wants is a cozy lap to curl up on, and a kind human who ensures she is well-loved and looked after.
According to Daisy Austin, her cat’s determination to survive is impressive. She has astounded every doctor with her medical history. The cat enjoys snuggling, playing, and shadowing Daisy around the apartment. She is always by Daisy’s side, whether she’s in the kitchen, closet, or on the couch.
